I am getting conflicting information regarding visa's for Rwanda - got different answers on phone vs. email from speaking to the High Omission in Ottawa, and different travel agents have also said different things!

From a Canadian with recent experience, is it possible to get the visa upon landing in Kigali, or do I need to get it in advance - hoping for the former.

Thanks,
Gnome

I can't speak from arriving at the airport. But we came overland from Tanzania. There was no visa. It was just a stamp, no money, and only a short and typical arrival form to fill out. As far as I know, Canadians (and many many others) don't require a visa.

Exempt from a visa...or no charge for the visa?
Despite the fact there's no charge, the high commission still said we need to get it in advance.
Anyway, I think we'll be fine without it...I'm sure it will just be an argument at the border if it comes to it.
Thanks for the feedback.

Gnome.

When I traveled there in '05 (along with 2 Canadians) they simply stamped everyones passport w/o a charge and w/o any sort of visa.

Hi there - I'm a Canadian who lives in Rwanda. As a tourist it is no problem, just show up at any port of entry (airport, land border post) and they'll stamp your passport and give you 90 days. No fee.

It is only if you are coming here to work you might prefer to arrange for a work visa in advance - but even that is not impossible once you're already here. I did it.

Hello again all, I just thought I'd add some updated information. I copy and paste:

This is to inform you that as of 1 November 2010, a visa is required by the Rwandan authorities for all Canadian citizens to enter Rwanda. Please contact the Rwanda High Commission in Canada * or get the application form online at http://www.migration.gov.rw/ . Once the form is completed, the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration will send you an email approving your request. Upon your arrival in one of the entry points of Rwanda, you will present this approval and pay on-site the visa fee (≈60 USD). Please note that this visa issued on-line is a single entry visa valid for 15 days. This visa can be renewed once for a period of 90 days. In order to renew it, you have to apply directly to the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration in Kacyiru, Kigali before the expiry date of your 15-day visa.
