Hi all

(Also posted in Travel Companions)

Maybe a bit early to post but since I'm planning this far out, maybe others are too?

Well traveled Canadian guy from Vancouver, flying into Kigali Rwanda on April 30th, leaving out of Dar Es Salam on May 31.

Would like to plan a Gorilla Trek sometime in the first week of May and curious to know if there are others who would like to join to share transportation costs?

Having a date for the Gorilla Trek sooner rather than later is better I think as would like to arrange for permit early.

Get in touch if anyone is interested.

Also open to everything in between Kigali and DES.

Cheers

Sean

You picked a month when it tends to be really rainy! This can make gorilla trekking tough, as well as road travel. You should allow extra time in your itinerary in case of delays.

Peace,

We are going to be there at the end of March....I'm worried about the rain too. Is it a reason to skip it?

Thanks for the heads up BigBri. Will def allow some extra time.

I would choose a less rainy time, however work constraints won't allow.

Hoping to make the best of it :)

Gorilla trekking or Tanzania Helen_of_Troy?

The possible problem is mud and slippery conditions when trekking. I always recommend hiking boots, but they are especially useful in such conditions.

I was in Tanzania in March two years ago with no weather issues, but heavy rains can play havoc with already poor roads. It is a big country, and if you are flexible you should be able to avoid trouble-spots.

Peace,

BB

Hi BB,
Sorry....gorilla tracking in Rwanda. I've been tracking for gorillas (Bwindi Mgahinga) in Uganda a couple of times but not when it was real rainy. We don't have a choice for dates as we will be in Kenya at the time so we will just take our chances.

By the way.....I'm going with Amahoro based on your thumbs up! Thanks so much!

You are welcome. There are several different gorilla groups, and one tends to stay closer to the park gates, so is easier to access. It was raining slightly during my trek, but the gorillas did not seem to mind, and it did not diminish the experience.

Have fun!

BB
