Hi,

I just wondered if there was an active community in Kigali on Thorntree...

I'm soon going to be moving there and will be looking for an apartment (and have thus been checking out the Kigali Life board) but just wondered if anybody has any recommendations on districts in which to live. I don't particularly want to be in an "ex-pat only" region. (I'm currently in Nairobi staying with a friend, and it is that sort of set-up... Beforehand I was in Khartoum where I was living in a more "local" part of town, and felt much more at home.)

I will be arriving knowing nobody except the person whom I'm coming with, and without a job, so if would be interested to meet other people in order to establish a social group! My work recently has been as a photographer/feature writer, and so if anybody knows of any assignments around that would, of course, also be fabulous :)

Cheers,
Phil

Hello there,

Maybe you have already moved but if not I have found this Kigali community newsletter helpful
http://www.kigalivibe.com/
Published every two weeks. It doesn't have very much information about non expat areas to live though I'm afraid - it's a good start thoough.

Incidentally if you have already moved to Kigali and have managed to find an area that is slightly more away from the ex-pat side of things I'd be really interested to know - I am moving out there in January, initially to spend six months learning some Kinyrwanda so I'd really love to find a community where this is spoken more frequently.

Good luck!

Laura
