Hi,

I will be working in Kigali for the week and am hoping to catch someone who may have a day trip somewhere on July 10 to Akagera, Parc du Volcans, or anywhere really on July 10th! I am having a bit of a tough time finding options for a day trip as a single traveler but would love to get out of the city. Thanks!

Most activities in the Parc National des Volcans (nature walks, gorilla trips, Bisoke volcano hike) start very early in the morning (you have to be at the park headquarters in Kinigi at around 7 am), so a day trip is very short. It is better to arrive there the day before. But if you just would like to see the volcanoes, you could just take a public bus in the morning from Kigali to Ruhengeri (2 hours), then local transport to Kinigi, enjoy the scenery and get back the same day.
Or you can take a public transport bus to Butare to visit the National Museum, or to Kibuye to relax at Lake Kivu from the terrace of Betany Guest House (from where you could make a little boat trip).
Being a single traveller travelling on public buses has the advantage of meeting Rwandans and talking to them. Might be more interesting than going with an expat you don't know.

Thanks, yeah, the manager of my hotel said the same thing about Parc des Volcans, so I think I will head there. Cheers.
