Hi all,
I am hoping to go to Rwanda in mid-December and have a few questions concerning Kigali and Lake Burera:
What is there to do in Kigali on a Sunday? From the Bradt guide, it seems that shops would be closed; is this correct (I am mostly interested in handicrafts)? Would the Caplaki crafts market be open? Are there any other activities that are worthwhile, such as walks, or any destinations outside of Kigali that can be reached on a day trip?
At VNP, is it possible to do the Golden Monkeys walk and visit Lake Burera on the same day with enough time to take a boat trip and/ or do some walking at the lake? I would like to have enough time to enjoy the area rather than jump out of the car, take a few photos and then go back to Ruhengeri.
Alternatively, is the following realistic: rent a 4x4 + driver for the day, set off from Ruhengeri/ Kinigi after breakfast, visit the lake (boat trip from Musangabo, ideally plus some walking), drive to Rusumo Falls and around the lake, and then either back to Ruhengeri (via Lake Ruhondo??) or get dropped off on the main road to Kigali, to catch a bus to Kigali and get to the airport by 6 PM? How much would that kind if trip be? Getting driven all the way to the airport would be even better, but I assume it would greatly increase the cost?
Thanks and happy travels,
Jules
