Hi all ... can anyone recommend somewhere budget to midrange-y to stay in late December in Kigali? Sort of between $40-$80 a night for the room. Prefer central, but if it's an easy city to get around then further out would also be fine for a great place.

I'd suggest the Step Town motel found here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293829-d1584806-Reviews-Step_Town_Motel-Kigali.html

it's a nice clean hotel with a helpful staff, i had my mom and her cousin stay here and it was perfect for them

I will say though, while it's not far from the center of town, it is down an undeveloped road so not easy for walking and some cabs don't know where it is yet, if you contact the hotel they can help you arrange tarnsport to and from

For that price cap, I would say go for Chez Lando. It is central and has an open space. There is also Dream Inn, which is cheaper and has got a spacious resto/bar

By the way, kigali is relatively small and motorbike-Taxis are convenient. Walking in kigali is quite enjoyable.

I would recommend Hotel Okapi. Good value for the money and convenient location at an easy walking distance from the city centre.
