Hi,

Is it possible to fly from Kigali to Mwanza, Tanzania? I'm thinking to traveling in June 2011 and would like to avoid a long road trip.

Any info about airlines, prices and schedules would be appreciated.

Thank-you.

I do not think there are direct flights. You could fly Kigali to Entebbe, and then onward to Mwanza on Precision Air. This is going to be pricey though.

You can get a comfortable coach from Kigali to Kampala. Spend the night in Kampala, taxi to Entebbe, then fly to Mwanza. This cuts out days of road travel without breaking the bank.

Peace,

BB

A tanzanian operator can do this, until there you have time to save though:

Air coastal Aviation: www.coastal.com</a>

@BigBri2

Precision air does not service Entebbe, i would say to go to Bujumbura and catch Fly540 to Mwanza

Precision Air does services Entebbe, but you are right, there is no Mwanza flight listed for 2011. (a friend flew this route last June.)

Yes, Coastal has a flight from Kigali to Mwanza for about $500.

Thanks everyone for your help. I contacted Coastal Aviation, and they say that they have daily flights from Kigali to Mwanza $500.

The overland journey from Kigali to Mwanza is not too long, quite tolerable, and very scenic. One minibus (Kigali to Rusumo), one shared taxi (Rusumo to Benaco), and one bus (Benaco to Mwanza) complete the route. It takes 12-13 hours total.

I know you've already traveled, but for others researching the flying option - do not take a bus from Kigali to Kampala if your destination is Mwanza. That bus ride is 10 hours, and then another 30-45 minute taxi or minibus takes you to the airport at Entebbe. Why not spend one more hour in a bus and arrive in Mwanza directly and for a fraction of the cost?
