Has anybody done the trip from Kigali via benako to Mwanza by bus. Where is it possible to staty over night in Benakao?

is spending the night in benaco important to you, or were you just thinking it'd be a good place to stay? i don't remember the names of any of the guesthouses there, but there are a few -- one in particular stands out in my mind as looking "nicer" than most of the others.
i've never traveled by bus from kigali to mwanza, but i have traveled by dala dala from kigali to the border at rusumo falls, then hitch-hiked to the turn-off to biharamulo, walked a while, flagged down a bus to biharamulo, stayed the night there, and then left again in the morning.
and i've made the drive in my own vehicle a dozen times. i live in geita, which is on the way to mwanza from kigali. and not a horrible place to stop for the night either, i should add. nothing much here, but several decent places to stay that accommodate a range of prices.
not saying you should necessarily stay in geita, but i don't think benaco's a very good option -- unless you're just wanting to see it. it's just that you could make it so much further in a day, especially when no matter where you stop short of mwanza, there's not going to be much to do except eat and sleep -- i figure might as well travel more...

Hallo thank you for information I think I have to stay there over night if I want to get the bus to mwanza in the morning.
That´s how is written in the lonley planet. But now I have to look on the map again.

Benaco is indeed the easiest place to pick up the bus to Mwanza in the early morning as it is the nearest settlement to the Rusumo border crossing which is on the bus route - it has a few places to stay to pick from. However, Ngara is about half an hour up the hill and has a lot more to it than Benaco which is a bit of a non-event. But all you are doing is getting a bus out of Benaco for 30 minutes, only to get on the big bus the next day to retrace your steps as it passes through Benaco anyway.
