Wanted to give a budget trip report, since the comments on TT helped us during our trip. We had 4 weeks from mid Dec to mid Jan. We flew in and out of Cape Town from Germany. This was far cheaper than a flight to Namibia. We hired a car (VW Polo) in CT for the whole 4 weeks for less than 600€. This was with full insurance and cross border paperwork. Driving a total of 6500km over the 4 weeks (including a lot of C and D roads in Namibia during rainy season), we had 1 flat tire. We also had with…
What is the entry like at the western end of Etosha? Is it accessible or closed to traffic?
Has anyone tried camping out at Sossusvlei after the gates close? Is there a way to stay out there overnight? I know in many places you are not supposed to do so, but I've been successful in a few places where I camped at the edges of the park. Anyone have any insight on this idea?
We are headed to Namibia via Windhoek in February and are considering going up to Etosha, across to the coast to Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, then down to Sossusvlei. Can anyone tell me how long it should take to do this trip as well as how long we should plan on being in each place? Also, are there restrictions with regards to the coastal road onward Walvis Bay? Suggestions with regards to places to stay... hoping to spend about 10 days... Anything you can share or provide guidance would be most…
Hi,
me and my wife are looking for a third person to hike (or at least register with) the Fish River Canyon since registration requires at least three people. We are planing to go beginning of May 2014. Anybody interested?
Hi there - do you have any recommendation for us?
Travel time is end of March. We are seeking for a not stressful but very interesting trip - maybe would be better to have a domestic flight rather than a car? Botswana could be as well an option.... the idea is to have as well 1 week on seychelles or s.th. like this after 2 weeks Africa (we have in total 3 weeks). You see, we need definitely help :-) - THANKS A LOT for every recommenation/idea!!!
50 kms north of Aus on the C13 is one of the best camping sites we stayed at in 2 months of self-driving through Southern Africa. On a farm owned by a very pleasant young couple there are 3 separate campsites each equipped with not only braai, large tub with running water, shelter and table and bench but a proper clothesline! The ablution block is outstanding with some beautiful little touches - as good as some I have experienced in far more expensive lodges. And all this in stunning…
Hi,
I am going to stay in Namibia for four months this spring and I am planning on a once in a lifetime trip to Victoria Falls on April with my boyfriend who has only one week to spend in southern Africa.
We already booked two hotel nights in Livingstone before I unfortunately noticed, that the Intercape bus does not run on the day we are leaving Livingstone, so I guess we have to rent a car in Livingstone and drive it back to Windhoek.
Thus, I would like to know if it is too optimistic to…
