a friend and I are planning our trip to Namibia, and hopfully the northern part of Botswana. We rented a 2WD car and have some problems estimating the distances and time between our destinations.
It is possible to travel from Windhoek - Sossulovei - Swakopmund - Etosha, crossing the border at Ngoma bridge and to the Victoria Falls. We have to go back to Windhoek and we would like to visit the Delta on the way back? Is it to much in 29 days?
Has anyone done a similar trip an can share…
We will be backpacking in Namibia and never brought a tent on a trip like this: however Africa seems to be a different type of adventure. Would anyone recommend bringing a tent or do most backpackers just stay in guesthouses?

Thank you for all of your posts, have learned a lot! My husband and I are taking a 4 week holiday, 2 in SA and 2 in Namibia/Botswana. I know it is not ideal, but we would love to see parts of both Namibia and Bostwana in 14-16 days. We don't have much holiday time and will not have a chance like this for a few years after this. I am spending about 5 weeks in Namibia this September and October. I will be spending the majority of my time at Dusternbrook which is about 50km north of Windhoek. However towards the end of my trip I'd like to see some more of the area and looking for any advice people have on trips to make that don't involve self-drive. The options I've been looking at include:

I just took a public minibus from Windhoek to Maun and avoid to pay crazy taxi price.
I found a minibus from Windhoek to Harare via Maun. It depart at Soweto market in northern Windhoek. I took a taxi from cardboard box packpackers to Soweto(8N$), then I pay 350N$ for that minbus to Maun. I think 300 is still highly possible to make a deal because the bus is not full when it leave!

There's a company which offers half-day bicycle tours to the Katutura township, which sounds more interesting to me than the regular minibus tour, and its about the same price. I'm wanting to take that tour on July 27, the only morning I'll have in Windhoek. The problem is that they need at least 2 people to do the tour, and though they have several people booked on other days, there's only me for 27th. Anybody else interested?

I am arriving late afternoon and have 2 full days to kill before I start a 12-day tour around Namibia. Any suggestions on where to stay in Windhoek - or - stay in a close by animal park?
- Any comments for Okapuka Ranch or RiverCrossings?
- Seems transfers to/from these parks are quite high? With all the extras w/car rental - should i just get their transfers?
- Any other suggestions?
