Hi everyone, my girlfriend and I are planning on going to Namibia/Botswana in July and/or August for 5 or 6 weeks. We haven´t planed anything so far (we don´t know whether to rent a car there or go through a travel agency), and the only thing we know for sure is that this´s not going to be a cheap trip. This is why we´d like to meet other travelers so we can share the cost and have a great experience. We are 34 and 35 (from Spain) and we have experience travelling around. We are flexible regarding dates and sightseeings.
May you be interested, email me: josevelasc@yahoo.es

I'm hoping to go myself and I'd love to share costs, car hire etc but I can't get away until September/October.
I am going through africa in september - december and I have had a look at many travel companies, looking for a budget tour through namibia and botswana is http://www.africanbudgetsafaris.com/budget-safaris/ and Ive figured this out to be easier and cheaper than hiring a car.
The problem with tours is that the itinerary is fixed. The ones I've looked at either don't include things I do want to do or do include things that I'm not interested in.
Good point, I guess got lucky with this tour.
I am doing 80% of the travel myself, but thought it nice to have a break from the organising a couple of times and let some one else organise it. :)
Good luck josevelasc hope you find someone to travel share with!
Back-packing is totally possible in Namibia. There are the more 'reputable' shuttles which are essentially geared for tourists. These travel to Etosha, Sossusvlei, and Swakopmund. The other form of transport is to use the local shuttle buses. Like most local african shuttle buses, these are often very busy and fully laden, but it is of course an African experience. The larger towns, Walvis, Swakopmund, Rundu, Katima, Tsumeb also have local taxi services, again mainly used by the locals, so getting around in these towns is also possible. In September the weather should be great, so camping is a real option if you really want to see Namibia on a budget. If you do find a friend to travel with and want to hire an economic car, let me know. My recommendation would also be to hire a 4x4 fully equipped with camping gear. This will certainly work out cheaper than hiring a regular car and moving from lodge to lodge.

Have you guys thought about doing a charity trek? UNICEF does one through Namibia in September, through the Namib desert over dunes, mountains, and plains through the Quantagab river and Skeleton Coast. You get to fundraise before travelling and after the trek you can visit the UNICEF projects and children where your fundraising money has been used. check it out here: www.unicef.org.uk/treks or email: challenge@unicef.org.uk. I think it's nice to combine travel and charity this way :)
