Seeking advice for driving from solitaire to sesriem at 5 Am in the morning

Hallo,

I have booked an hotel not far from Solitaire and I was told that my tour to Sossusvlei will start from Sesriem at 6AM
hence I should leave my hotel at around 4h30 and drive the 50 Km along the C19 in the dark
I am a bit scared of having to drive on a non tarmac road in the dark not even counting possible animals and so on
Hence my question: would you dis-advice the driving in the dark or could I stil do it if I drive quite slowly and safe
Any feedback from people having done ths in teh dark would be highly appreciated

The road from Solitaire to Sesriem is nicely graded, at least it was this past June. We were fortunate to be staying in Sesriem and did not drive that section in the dark. However, there often is a long line of vehicles to get into the park when it opens, so there will probably be other cars out there with you making the same morning drive. I think that you should be fine if you just drive at a reasonable pace and keep a diligent eye out for possible wildlife crossing the road.

I did find it a little scary. It is not easy to see the edges of the road in the dark. My advice would be to leave plenty of time and take it very slowly.
