Hello everyone,

I would like to rent a 2WD Honda Jazz from Budget or a Nissan Tilda 1.6 from Thrifty (both automatic) for a 3 day trip to Sossusvlei. I am just wondering what other travellers do in terms of insurance? Do most people go with the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or reach for the more expensive Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW). As you can imagine the liability dramatically falls with SCDW, but you are also paying a higher premium. Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

Hi Ellinas,

Do yourself a favour and compare the prices and deals that you can get booking through a local tour operator and going direct to the car rentals companies.

Often you will find that the car rental company will have a contractual agreement in place with a local tour operator which means you pay a lower fuel deposit when you pick up the rental and the CDW or SCDW options will be included as standard part of the package, together with contract fees and added extras, like a second spare tyre.

One point to note is that automatic vehicles are not very common in Namibia - most people do use manual vehicles, but it is a good idea to 'shop around' and compare
