I am considering 1,5 month a trip to Namibia with 3 kids (4, 6, 10y) and understood that family rooms for 5 are difficult to find.
Is this correct? Any plausble alternatives?
Any other experiences with kids of this age: access restrictions to parks, health issues, ...
Period will be august-october 2012.

Hi,
Have you been on similar trips with your kids before?
Namibia is very clean, but also very big. Places to stay are far apart. Many places with wild animals won;t be happy have young kids wandering around, as predators may mistake them for prey.
I'm not saying there are big cats at every corner - you'll probably not see any except in Park or specialist lodges - but children are not responsible for their actions.
Around Swakopmund, there are many family-friendly activities and places to go.

I am thinking there are many camping grounds in Namibia with both lodges and secure areas to erect tents.

Hi again,
Sorry, I didn;t mean to paint a grim picture. I mean that few places are fenced, even in the national parks, and I have seen jackals wandering around camp sites like urban foxes in London. About 10 years ago, a hyena bit the face of a camper at Sossusvlei, who had stupidly slept outside the tent.
I suspect the places that are happy to accept kids are more secure for that reason, but as I don;t have kids and don;t tend to go to places that attract them, I'm probably not the best person to ask!
A good in-country agent like Cardboard Box, would probably reel off several great places, an intinerary to suit and book you in within an hour.
The main health issue would be malaria. Apart from the Caprivi, most of the country is low/no risk. Etosha has a seasonal risk.
Places like Swakopmund and Walvis Bay have many activities that kids would love - boat trips with seals/dolphins; sandboarding, Tommy's desert tours, etc, etc.
Swak is more geared up for Namibian family holidays, so I imagine there is plenty (relative to the rest of Namibia) accommodation for families.
Hope this helps. My initial reaction was from thinking of your kids in the back of a car looking out at the landscapes for hours on end. I enjoy doing that, and there is nowhere better than Namibia for scenery, but I couldn't imagine kids getting too excited about it.
However, I realise I don't know what you have plannned, or what your kids are like. Sorry to jump to conclusions.
Hope you enjoy this amazing country.
