Hi! - I have been trawling through posts on Thorn Tree and catching tips for planning our tour for July 2011 (16 days).

We are a couple and their 18 year old niece. When looking for accommodations, it seems to be unusual to rent tripple rooms, and two double rooms each day would be just too expensive. Has anybody tried to get deals for 3 persons in a double room in pensions or lodges? Spare bed, camp bed or just air mattress?

Many thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Most Africans are pleasant reasonable people who know how to do business.
All you need to do is ask and as in most places you should get a win win outcome.
Good Luck.

Hi, just outside of Windhoek you can stay at Duesternbrook guest farm. It is on the road from Windhoek to Okahandja. They have one room that sleeps three persons. It's a good lodge with plenty of activities, such as cheetah and leopard feedings and game drives.

Here the link to the lodge room: Room for 3 persons in Namibia

Thanks! I find both the more general reply and the more spesific very helpful. Good deals for 3 persons are still welcome.
