Hello Namibia/Botswana lovers,
5th of June are we finally leaving for our Namibia/Botswana trip. Saturday the 6th we land in Windhoek in the morning, July 2nd in the late evening we leave again. That gives us 27 days to spend. We already booked a normal sedan car (4x4 too expensive). We would really like you to criticise our travel schedule. We already did quite some travelling however never on a “selfdrive holiday” basis…so it’s a bit difficult to calculate/”feel” travel distances…
6/6 We land in the morning, get our hire car at the airport, pass through WDH for some groceries & to hire some extra camping equipment & drive on over the C26 to Gamsberg Pass (sleeping at Hakos Guest Farm???)
7/6 Travel over the Gamsberg Pass, Kuiseb Canyon on to Walvisbay
8/6 Organized trip to Sandwich Harbour and/or kayaking at Pelican Point?
9/6 In the morning: Swakopmund and/or Living Desert Tour?
Afternoon: over the Cape Cross seal colonies to Torra Bay
10/6 Travel over the C39 & Bergsig to Palmwag or Ongongo Falls Camp
11/6 Palmwag or Ongongo Falls + game driving out of one of both (someone knows bothplaces??)
12/6 Travel day up north (C43) over Opuwo to Epupa Falls
13/6 Epupa Falls (we’d love to visit a Himba village but only when it’s not a kinda “human zoo” experience….)
14/6 Relaxing at Epupa Falls (or this Kunene River Lodge???)
15/6 Travel day down south to Hobatere lodge or Kavita Lion lodge or Otjitongwe cheetah farm???
16/6 The night is booked at the Okaukejo campsite
17/6 “ at the Halali campsite
18/6 „ at the Namutoni campsite
19/6 The day we still spend in Etosha, late afternoon we drive to Treesleeper camp (or is Roy’s camp better??? We’d like to do a Bushman activity…)
20/6 Drive direction east to Rundu or all the way to Popa Falls
21/6 Popa Falls & Mahango NP
22/6 Crossing the Botswana border and travel to Tsodillo Hills & sleep there at the campsites (did I understood good that it’s nowadays no problem to get to Tsodillo by normal sedan car????)
23/6 Here we have an extra day build in (or another day at Tsodillo or at Drotsky’s or we already drive to Maun)
24/6 Maun
25/6 Maun
26/6 Maun
27/6 Maun In fact I calculate 3 days for Maun to do whether a 2 night/3 day Moremi safari (if we find something not so overly expensive…) or a shorter 1 night/2day mokoro trip in the Delta. As you see I foresaw 4 days here to have 1 for spare…
28/6 Both 28 & 29 will be travel days to go over Ghanzi, Gobabis, Windhoek to Sesriem &
29/6 & Sossusvlei
30/6 We sleep at Sesriem campsite
01/07 Sossusvlei and sleeping somewhere close (fe. Zebra Lodge or Bullsport…???)
02/07 Drive back to Windhoek where we leave late in the evening
Please be very critical!! Thanks!! Koelan
