Hi,

I'm planning to move from Turkey to Windhoek for a project for 2 years.

I am a 24-year-old woman with 2 cats. Here is my first problem: My beloved cats. I will deal with the procedures of moving pets to Namibia.

My questions are...

Considering I am a person from temperate zone, how much time do you think it may take for me to acclimate (I will move in November or December at latest)?

Do you think language will be a "big" problem for me thinking "even" English is not my native tongue?

What about insects in Windhoek? I am really scared of them, especially spiders...

Windhoek temperatures in summer are about the same as in Turkey, what's the problem?
Urban wildlife in Southern Africa is quite harmless. I went camping for a few weeks in Nam and don't remember many insects at all - it's a desert, too dry. You have scorpions and mosquitos in Turkey, how do you survive those? :)

I agree with #1.
Moreover, the weather in winter (especially at night) can even be colder than in Mediterranean countries!

People in Africa is very kind and always try to understand you, however english is not the mother tongue of most of them! Many people has a tribal tongue as first one, but they speak good english and are sympathetic if you are not very fluent in english.

No, temperatures in Turkey and Namibia are very different.

Felt temperature is so high in Namibia. I've recently talked with Namibians and they also warned me against the heat.

I've been living in Turkey for 23 years but I've never seen a scorpion in my life so I did nothing to survive... but I can faint if I see one.

I'm glad to hear that you didn't see any insect in Namibia. When I searched information about Namibia, some travel sites suggested wearing socks to avoid insects so I was curious. Thank you.

I also heard of the cold nights. And thank you for your comment as well Flavia.

Hi Kmmaus, I will also arrive there in February or March at latest (the flight is postponed) ! And I will also live there for 2 years. And I am a 24-year old woman. It is like I'm reading a comment of my own :)
I would love to exhange contact information!
