Hello everybody,

I am currently close to making a reservation for staying at two campsites run by Namibia Wildlife Resorts. To confirm the booking they now want me to send my credit card details (including the Card Security Code/CVC number) to one of their employees.
I think this is a bit risky or am I wrong? There seems to be no other way for non-Namibian nationals to confirm their booking so I guess more people must have done this, so I guess it is OK?

Hi, it is generally too risky to give out your credit card information to someone. However, you can only go ahead if you trust the person, otherwise it is more than risky.

That is a good general advice. I was wondering if someone here has any experience with Namibia Wildlife Resorts in this respect.

I do not live in Namibia nor have any idea about the namibian wildlife resort.nd that is exactly what you have to double check.

I made the reservation on NWR website last Oct. I paid the down payment in last Nov. and final payment in March by credit card. I sent them the credit card information by fax not by e-mail. Everything went fine so far.

Yes, it's kind of risk to provide them the credit card information. However, this is the only way to make the reservation for foreign tourists.

If you still worry about this, probably you can ask some travel agencies to make the reservation and then pay the money to your agency.

Good Luck!

I've got the impression this is standard practice in some African countries. LAM (Moz airlines) is doing the same for bookings from abroad. I went ahead with this and didn't encounter problems, but then my card was about to expire anyway...

I would not go as far as to say it is standard practice here in South Africa, but I have had to do that a few times in the past and I think it is an accepted way of making a reservation. Because it is done here I would have no problem doing the same in Namibia.

I made a reservation last October sending visa data through a form NWR send me by e-mail. The amount was properly charged to my card and there were no problems at all. We even had to make some changes in our booking (dates, number of people) and everything worked fine re/ the charges for the difference in the amounts due.

In constrast, I DID have a problem with Air Namibia. I booked online a flight (approx 400 €) that was charged to my card. Apparently everything OK. However, three months after this charge someone under the name of Air Namibia tried to charge again 1200€ . Thanks God my bank has a protection system for non-typical card operations and I received a message in my cell phone asking me for an authorization and I could stop it.

We have booked three separate times with NWR and other establishments in Namibia, also for car hire with our credit card details. Have also booked campsites in Botswana and accomm./car hire in South Africa all with CC over the last 10 years. Never had a problem.
