I'm going up to Namibia again next week.
From Swakop I always take the B2 to Windhoek and then the B1 to the Vioolsdrif border.
I would like to take the road pass Walvis.
How is the desert road from Walvis Bay to Mariental?
Do you need a 4x4?
Is it in a similar condition as the D1918 pass Spitzkoppe on your way to Henties?

We drove from Walvis Bay to Sesriem and Sesriem to Mariental along the C roads in a 2x4 in January. It was fine, the roads were good and well maintained. The scenery is stunning, though the drive will still take you a fair few hours. I do not know about the roads around Spitzkoppe but the C and D roads in Damaraland around Twfelfontein and Uis were very poorly maintained and very corrugated. The C roads from Walvis Bay to Mariental are very good in comparison.
