We are trying to decide whether to fit in a 2.5 day drive through Damaraland while traveling from Swakopmund to Etosha (versus taking a shorter inland route).
Any suggestions or thoughts regarding this decision?
Worth trying to fit in, even if it means more driving?
Suggested sites to visit there?

Unquestionably worth fitting in. Damaraland is one of the jewels of Namibia and you would most likely kick yourself into eternity for missing this just so that you could get to Etosha in a little less time.

Have a look at this info http://www.namibian.org/travel/namibia/damaraland.htm

Also the famed Welwitschia plant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welwitschia_mirabilis at the Brandberg mountains.

Brandberg for the "white Lady" rock painting, the mountain itself
Twyfelfontein for rock engravings - the best in the world, Burnt Mountain and the environment.
