Many hanks for your help. I have been trying to book the main destinations now on the NWR site and hope I can make the dates. They don't seem to get back to me though.

These are all great suggestions.

I was thinking of renting a 2WD for driving through Etosha, etc. and camping on the ground in my own personal small tent. But when I looked into renting cars, I noticed all the 4WD have tents that open up on top of their vehicle.

Is this a safety precaution? If I camp on the ground next to my 2WD should I be concerned about being trampled by elephants, or mauled by lions. Are there a reason the tents are off the ground? PLease let me know if they're necessary so I can rent the jeeps with high roof tops tents.

Thanks!!

There is nothing to be concerned about by camping on the ground. You will be just fine either way.
