Hallo,

i was told some days ago that the road from Aus to Soltaire is very bad and not very convenient for driving
hence I plan to drive from Lüderitz to Sossusvlei via Keetmanshoop Mariental and Maltahohe in order to avoid non tarmac road as much as I can

the question is How long will this trip last . I guess some 10 hours
Is the road better if i would drive from Lüderitz to Goageb and then to bethanie and then to Maltahohe
thx alot for answer
o

What kind of car do you have? I wouldn't do the detour over Keetmanshoop, you will not make it in a day unless you start driving when the sun gets up, but even then things could happen, flat tire or so, a rental can not be driven during the night or you void your insurance, they most of the time have black boxes so they can read out the data in case of an accident.

You could take the C14 from Goageb up towards Maltahoehe but that is also gravel all the way, maybe you're lucky and the road is getting grated right now, I would take the direct way, at Helmeringhausen you can decided between C27 or C14.

In what season? With a tiny Kia 2WD we drove this in 2 relaxed days, using the gravel road though the Namibrand nature Reserve branching west from Helmeringshausen (stayed at the hotel there) - it was one of the most beautiful drives we did in Namibia, recommended. The road was graded very well. Along the Luderitz-Aus road stop off at the viewpoint for the wild horses, amazing.

Hi, If it's not a bad weather condition - the gravel road is no problem for 2WD cars. We saw a lot of tourists on our way. It's a very Scenic road !

In Lüderitz you should taste the great oysters (if you like them) at the Shearwarter Oyster Bar

Ah yes, we went back twice to eat oysters there (in the harbour, keep looking) , fantastic and good value.
