We are arriving at Windhoek around 7:30pm and leaving the next morning for Etosha, any recommendation for inexpensive lodging near the airport?

I do not believe there is any accommodation at the airport you have to go into town and it as about 30 minutes ride!

As retiree mentioned the airport is at least 40kms away from Windhoek in the middle of nowhere. There are a couple of places to stay en route to the city but we usually get a shuttle organised (your accommodation can recommend) and take the half hour ride into the city. We like Rivendell Guest House.

Windhoek International Airport is about 45km east of the city. How do you get to Etosha NP on the day after arrival ? Do you rent a car, do you go on a tour, do you fly (and if yes, from which airport - from Hosea Kutako or from the national airport (Eros)) ? Depending on how you travel to Etosha (where you pick-up the car, where the tour starts etc.), you might want to select your accommodation.

Assuming that you are not flying out of Hosea Kutako the next day, I would take a cab into the city and spend the night in Windhoek. Pension Moni is a nice and not expensive place, or as recommended by another poster, Rivendell GH.

Hi, we will be renting a car for our tour around Namibia. Is it just as easy to pick up a car in town as it is at the airport? I don't really want to be driving after dark our first day in Namibia and our flight doesn't arrive until, I think 7:30 ish. Any car rental recommendations would be great too.

For cars check out http://www.namibian.org/travel/car.htm you can rent in Windhoek the rental company will pick you up at the airport, you can also ask to pick up the car the next day, which is advisable after a long flight, also you need to do some shopping befor hitting the road, at least some water and snacks should always be in the car.

We hired from http://kalaharicarhire.com/ because he has older cars for good rates and free camping equitment if you need or want that, he is highly recommended on a german forum and we had no problems with our old car during our trip.
