Hi all...

Am now planning a little trip into Moz, I live in Johannesburg, so its just on my doorstep.

I have used this forum before for accommodation suggestions and advice and its been great, so hope someone out there has some useful suggestions!
Ok, I have 10 days, will have one or 2 nights in Maputo, then want to head up the coast, to Vilanculos or beyond. I will be taking public transport.

So, questions would be, how long would it take to get up to vilanculos in one day if possible? Or…

Can anyone tell me whether its wise to attempt travelling overland from Gorongosa National Park to Malawi and the southern end of the lake? From what I've read it's a pretty rough and ready route but is it attemptable and how long, on average, would it take?

diving tofo

Hi,

I am thinking of diving Tofo in early July. Is it really as easy to spot whale sharks, mantas and humpbacks as people say? Has anyone been at that time of year?

Cheers!

Nick

Hi!

How can one travel through Mozambique by bus/train/dhow departing from and returning to Dar? I was thinking of doing this mid June to mid July. Has anyone done this? Advice? I was in Maputo and Bazaruto around 1998 and loved it, although I had very little time.....

Thanks!

Nick

Hiya, me again!

Complete change of plan. We're now going to fly into Pemba via Beira partly to save time and also so that we can see the North of Mozambique.
We plan to go for a drive down to Ilh Da Mozambique at some point.

Where would you stay in Pemba?
We're looking to stay near Wimbe beach so that dive centres, restaurants etc are nearby.

We have looked at Club Nautilus but not sure if it is still open and also how secure it is (as it is right on the beach)
We are looking to spend between…

We're heading to Tofo in July and can't decide between Casa Barry (sea front cabanas) and Cafe No Mar guest house. Does anyone have any comments/recommendations? Casa Barry looks like it's right on the sandy beach, whereas Cafe No Mar location doesn't see, quite as nice, although the accommodation looks great. Any help appreciated!

I'm planning a trip to South Africa at the end of the year and I was planning on doing a side trip to the Maputo area for some scuba diving, which I heard was amazing in the country. However, I've been reading posts here and it seems like the better dive spots are more in the north? That being said, would it be even worth a trip to go diving in southern mozambique? I won't have time to go up north and if the southern part of the country is boring or bland (for diving), I might consider scrapping…

Another year another trip

During september gonna fly into Malawi for a 3 week trip , travelling overland to Mozambique. At the moment i am thinking of either crossing Lake Malawi and heading for Pemba for some R&R then flying home via Maputo or Niarobi, or i could cross into mozambigue in the southern area of Malawi and head for the coast nearer maputo.

Any info on good accommodation, Lake malawi ferry, things to do would be appreciated.

Thanks J

What options are there for getting from Metangula to Likoma when the Ilala isn't making its weekly run? Are there other boats that go all the way between the two, or is there transport to Cobue to catch a dhow there?
Also, do you go through Malawian immigration at Likoma?

Thanks,
Tom
