Hi,

one of the things I like most, and more when travelling alone, is to interact with the people and that has been so anywhere I have travelled on my own before.

But, what about Mozambique? I have heard that African black people in general like to stay on their own with their people and not to interact much with foreigners, unless for disturbing somehow most of the times.

I don't know if what heard above is a very fair view of Africans because it's the first time I am going to real Africa despite Morocco which is not the same...

So please tell me your opinions about Mozambicans, :-)) Thanks.

I would say that is not a fair view at all - in my experience (as a tourist) if anything the opposite applies and many tourists don't seem to like to mix with the Africans!

With the exception of Ghana, where I did find it difficult to have many interesting conversations with the locals, I've always found Africans in general to be very welcoming and friendly. To be fair to the Ghanaians, they did seem to be so busy trying to make a living that they probably had no time spare to socialise with idle foreigners.....

Many Africans are masters of languages, and very good at mime if you don't share a common language, so you can always communicate. Of course there are people - as everywhere in the world - who are only interested in your money, but you can usually spot these easily and then have nothing more to do with them.

I found the people of Mozambique especially fond of dancing and generally enjoying themselves - if you are open and friendly, they will be too.

Have a great time!

I agree with Kaz. It all depends on your approach to people. On my first visit to Afica over 10yrs ago I was a bit reserved and shy but I found on subsequent trips that if I was genuinely warm and friendly and prepared to engage with people then suddenly faces light up and you will find locals are great fun and have a terrific sense of humour.

Great, thanks, I always open myself easily to people and would like to keep on doing that with total trust in Africa too, :-))

Very nice answers.

Having worked all over Africa (including Mozambique) I concur with the above. However I'm surprised that kaz found Ghana to be hard going; I worked there on and off for 5 years and found the people to be possibly the most friendly and easy-going of anywhere.

The mozambiqueans are very friendly and talkative. If you speak portuguese the best place for conversations about life, polics, "fetiços" are the chapas and trucks. As a you are foreigner normally they are very curious about your land.

What you'll get with Mozambique is.....Latino Africa. Beautiful, friendly people.

If you enjoy dancing, get to a nightclub in Maputo.
