Can anyone confirm that visas at the airport are available for all nationalities - my husband is Cameroonean and I am British. Also need to know if it is easy to travel by public transport from Maputo up the coast stopping at various places and if anyone can suggest any lakes/national parks worth visiting

Yes visas are USD25 for ALL Nationalities, other those exempt (Moz neighbouring countries). Plenty of public transport up the coast and only pay for short sections so you can get off and if you don't like the place, other buses and chapas always there later. I also hitch lifts on the big trucks if other options not available.
I would stop at Bilene, Quissico, Zavala, Inhambane, Massinga (ask for a ride to Pomene) and at Inhassoro.
