Hi All,

So I have two weeks in Mozambique as part of a six month honeymoon starting in March next year and I am wondering what recommendations ppl have for the best way to spend these two weeks!!

My budget is $180US per day (for two of us) which sounds like a lot but once two of you do any activities/tours (+ we are keen divers!) and incl accom, food and transport it gets easily used up! After Moz we will need to either transfer back to Joburg to fly to Madagascar or get to Dar Es Salaam - not sure at this stage.

I have thought about heading to Maputo, then up to Inhambane and spending some time at Tofo. Then up to Vilanculo and Bazaruto Archipelago (maybe do a dhow safari as accom is prob too expensive). This will prob take a week or so - what to do with the second week?

Appreciate all your comments!!!

Or....should I take two weeks to do the above considering travel is slow in Moz and take more time in each place??

Take it slow. I think that you will have enough to keep you busy for 2 weeks, especially since you're keen divers. Its beautiful further north, but the travelling is even slower!

The north is slower, but if you have been diving/snorkelling in other areas of the world you may be dissapointed with Moz. Of course seeing whale sharks is the ultimate, but if you dont get to see them then for me there was not alot going for it. Moz is a very expensive poor country, i had more problems with overcharging here than i did in 10 other african countrys, plus buses tend to go at 3-4am, but there is a new luxuary bus company called TCO. Be sure to remind them where you want to get off, I ended up 3 hours futher on than i wanted to,and had to get a truck all the way back with no refund! I found the people to be indifferent to tourists, but im sure that was due to my lack of Portugese. Maybe going inland would be more worth while? Tofu has some cheaper backpacker places to stay, vuilunculos has more upmarket places $40 and up, with new places opening all the time. Becareful at night time here, i had an unpleasant incident that happened during the day, i had to go to the hospital but unfortunatly there was no doctor or nurse!
In saying all this most people love the south of Moz, but it does remind me of Thailand 15 years ago, i prefer the north, especially moz island. Im sure you will enjoy where ever you end up going.
