I am planning on spending 2 months in Mozambique in July/August 2010. I want to take some Portuguese classes, and am thinking of doing this in Maputo for the first 2-3 weeks of my trip. I will then travel for the remaining 5-6 weeks. I have the following questions I am hoping someone can answer:

1) Any recommendations of language schools? Is Maputo a good location to do this in?

2) I am travelling alone. Is it easy to meet other people to travel with? Are there many popular hostels outside of Maputo?

3) Is it advisable to bring a tent i.e. are there many places to camp and will this save a lot of money?

4) What is a sensible budget? With regard to accommodation I'm not looking for luxury, but I do enjoy eating the occasional meal in a nice restaurant and I will want to get involved with activities & excursions.

Thanks!

Last year I couldn't get the time off work so in the end I never went. Now I can definitely go, and any help with the questions I have asked would be greatly appreciated!

well, it is not the question of travel plans but language courses. I have no answers to 2-4.

I used search (upper right hand corner) to find my own answers (to johnnywortho and others) because i don't have them elsewhere, and I found his questions as well. So why he himself cannot search? I have written extensively about Maputo and learning Portuguese in Mozambique, and don't have excess amount of time now, so sorry for that.

Wbrianna, are you some kind of back up moderator or the owner of this forum or what?

Hi Johnny,

I have plans very similar to yours. I'm leaving in may to do a Portuguese course in Maputo for about 2 weeks. This costs something around 750 dollars. After that I'm heading north, Nampula, to do some volunteering for the teran foundation (www.teranfoundation.org) for a month. I don't know yet how much that will cost, but it comes along with 3 meals per day, and your own room.
Hope this helps.
