My friend and I are planning a trip next year and are keen to see what Mozambique has to offer. We have 5 weeks and current thought is to fly to Jo'berg and head East on the BazBus. After that, plans are undecided but would like to include surfing and diving (Tofu?) and my friend is keen to head up to Malawi as she hasn't been before.

Realistically, how much will we be able to fit in during 5 weeks? We have both travelled a reasonable amount although not together and this will be our 3rd trip each to Africa having travelled in Southern and East Africa before. I spent a fair chunk of last year in Tanzania/ Malawi (and would love to go back)- would it be realistic to travel from Jo'berg to Dar in 5 weeks via Moz and Malawi? Or would people who have travelled in Moz recommend concentrating our time there?

I have been to the Kruger and Swaziland before so not planning to stop much before Maputo! Still in the early planning stage as you can tell but any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I have done Joburg to Malawi via Moz in 4 weeks, and it wasn't too rushed, though I headed straight to Maputo and then north from there. I think Joburg to Dar via Moz and Malawi is realistic in 5 weeks though you will have some days of hard travelling. Not sure if its a good idea to head east on the Baz Bus though. I suggest getting a bus bus straight from Joburg to Maputo.
