Hi,
Having read and googled a whole lot of stuff on the Quirimbas Archipelago and Selous in Tanzania I'm desperate to go. The only thing is the 3 weeks I have available are in May. This is obviously the 'green' season in Tanzania but seems to be a good time to go for the Quirimbas. Bearing in mind that we're not super rich and that this is the wet season, how feasible is the following itinerary?
Monday 30th April arr Dar form London
Tuesday 1 May travel Dar - Mloka (for Selous River Camp)
Wed 2nd May - Friday 4th May Selous River Camp and walking safaris/boat safari in Selous
Sat 5/Sunday 6th travel to Udzungwa for trekking
Monday 7th trekking
Tuesday 8th travel back to Dar
Wednesday 9th flight Dar - Pemba or
Wednesday 9th - Friday 11th overland Dar - Pemba (or is is possible to get to Ibo island overland by public transport without having to go first to Pemba - i.e. a bus from Mocimboa de Praia to Tandanhangue for an onward dhow to Ibo?)
Saturday 12 - Wednesday 16 - Ibo
Wednesday 16 either flight to Dar from Pemba or overland back to Dar
Sat 19th leave Dar for London
On another note I notice that LAM flights to/from Pemba are almost entirely booked out around weekends. Am I right in assuming these flights are block booked by the superluxe hotels and in this case is it possible to sniff out a couple of tickets somewhere for the Friday 18th departure from Pemba to Dar? This would give me 2 more days in MOZ, and therefore either more time to travel overland or in Tanzania.
and finally what should we be budgeting for this? I was thinking $45pp per day plus flights if we take them. is this too much of a budget?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kelly
