Hi all,

My wife and I are planning a honey moon vacation to Mozambique in January but are worried that the weather is going to be to hot/wet/muggy. We have traveled to SE Asia and Central America on back pack trips before so we have experience being in heat. Just wondering if it will be too hot to hike, or too rainy to enjoy the beach. We are looking to dive, kayak, surf, hike, etc. If you think it is not worth it to go in Mozambique, please feel free to recommend other spots!

Also, wondering if anyone has experience renting a car to get around in Mozambique? Any insights on safety, tips, precautions etc would be helpful!

Thanks :)

Have returned from wheeling around Moz for almost a month, can not comment on the weahter 'cause in Oct all of Moz was gorgeous. Motoring part is easy so really no need to invest in four by four, unless you plan to go to some remote spots like we did. In terms of security, Moz is a heaven to be in, safe, tame, mild and very relaxed, nice people as long as you have the right attitude too. Moz is so beautiful as long as you can discern the beauty, it gets more stunning the far north you travel.

Renting a car is expensive if you do it in Maputo, we flew to Johannesburg because it made a world of difference in terms of car rental cost and flight too. Gasoline is expensive so keep that in mind (Europe price if you are familiar - wherever you come from). All else is smooth, roads are excellent, from the bottom south to Pemba, with some potholes and road constructions, which will slow you down in the north central part, but all doable in normal car. Enjoy Mozambique, 'cause it is a beautiful part of Africa. It will remain with us for a long long time.

October - March is Summer season in Mozambique so it's likely going to be hot and sticky during those months, some rain and electrical storms in the afternoons too. Temperatures generally range from 27° - 31° C during these months.

The Scuba Mozambique website offers a very helpful guide to travelling in Mozambique. It covers everything from weather, safety, driving tips, health requirements, the best diving destinations and even Mozambique accommodation.

Scuba Mozambique Travel Tips

It's definitely helpful if you're planning a trip to the South East African country.

Good luck!
