Hello beautiful people,
Travelling to Africa in Feb and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for home stays in Mozambique and Tanzania? Haven't made set plans yet on where we are going so any town is fine within the countries, just looking for friendly honest families :) Any advice is fantastic.
Big thanks
Lauren

Stayed twice with local families during traversing in Moz and it was bare bone basic. We got some recommendations for home stays at the post office, even if you speak to locals at the market, they will find you something too, but be careful about your choices. The conditions are very skeletal, no electricity and no running water, so make sure you are alright with that.

I nearly did a homestay on Ibo but circumstances dictated it didnt happen. I think if you get in touch with www.kaskazini.com they can help organise. Ibo is an incredible place to visit and certainyl doing homestay in the Makuti town would be great - butyes, it will be very very barebones basic as R13 sasy - this is one of the poorest areas of the world after all.

Yes kaskazini do, see bottom here: http://www.kaskazini.com/PlacestoGo/Quirimbas/IboBudgetAccom.html

Oh and for homestay in Tanzania, join www.couchsurfing.org. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to couchsurf in Tanzania, i stayed with a 25 ish year old law student (and founder of 'Dar's first Domestic Help Agency') in Dar Es Salaam; an Indian-African family on Zanzibar Island who were the most hospitable people i have ever stayed with anywhere; and a HIV medical professional (again mid-twenties) just outside of Arusha. Also an expat in Dar one time but there are various locals on CS in Tanzania so you should be able to find someone in the larger places (watch for the tourguides on it in Arusha though). The accommodation is free but obviously more round there than anywhere else ensure you give them a decent present in return for the hospitality, and muck in with cooking and washing up and all that jazz.

If you don't know Couchsurfing, definitely check it out, its one of the best websites for travelers, host and surf all round the world. The accommodation is free but that (for me at least) is more or less incidental - the real bonuses are the people you meet, the local knowledge etc you get from it, and the experiences that it leads to.
