Was planning on taking the train from Bulawayo to Maputo next week,was wondering if anyone had any info on the the train service,or how bad the flooding really was?

I had no idea that there were passenger trains anywhere in Mozambique other than the one between Nampula and Cuamba. There certainly is none from Komatipoort (in South AFrica) to Maputo.

Read on 'seat 61.com' which is all about train travel in Africa that I can get a train from Livingstone to Maputo.And will double check it now that you said that. Yes there is passenger train all the way,you switch to Moz train at Chicualacuala which is on the border and arrove in Maputo at 6am .Only one train a week. Hopefully this info is not too old cause it cahnges quickly here?

Rudik I sure will.I know from Vic Falls to Bulawayo it is $12 for a first class ticket.Thanks for the info and will post it shortly cause I am hoping to leave Tuesday.

Just because you mention Vic Falls to Bulawayo, don´t be fooled by 1st class. I took it 3 weeks ago, none of the carriages had any electricity or other lights, the carriages are from 1951, toilets are dirty with no water, and lots of mosquitos while you wait for the train to depart.
That said, the fellow travellers were very nice, the train staff very friendly, the bedding clean and comfortable enough and it´s dirt cheap.
Your choice. Enjoy.

Just saw today the trains are not running at the moment, as the floods have cut the railroad.
RudiK, there are postings about that railwwy line (MAputo Chicualcuala) on this forum, I did the trip loooong time ago.

The connection to Bulawayo intrigues me, although I cannot understand why Greenmamba would have to change trains at Chicualacuala instead of at the border (Eduardo Maondlane).
I'm afraid I know no Portuguese and the translate function did not seem to work on that web-page. Do you know of any other web-site from which I might glean some information about it ?
When you did that trip, how long did it take to get from Maputo to Chic..?
An interesting trip might be Johannesburg by air to Vic Falls, then by train to Maputo, and back to Johannesburg by bus.
