Hello lovely ladies and gentlemen of Thorntree,

Myself and my partner are in the process of planning our RTW trip for 2013. The part we're having trouble with is the logistics of getting from Malawi to Mozambique - I'm not finding much information on border crossings at all.

Basically, I'd like to know how to get from Malawi to Inhambane/Tofo. After Tofo, we plan on going to Beira and then Maputo, before continuing down to South Africa.

If anyone could offer any information or advice, it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

Any reason why you need to go to Tofo first, then back up to Beira? That's back-tracking about 800km.

From Mwanza in Malawi you can cross into Mozambique at Zobue, the border is straightforward.
Go first to Tete, then down to Chimoio and out to Beira on the coast. Then go south. You can use public transport all the way.
