hello!

I know this seems like a question that has been asked a lot recently on here.
I have started looking at buses from johannesburg to Maputo and they all seem to say one needs to have the visa beforehand, not get it at the border.

but this just seems like so much extra work and money, since i am sure its cheaper at the border.

so my question is, has anyone managed to do that recently? taken a bus ride to maputo, and been able to get the visa at the border?

or, has anyone found another way of doing it? like taking the bus to the border post only and then making your own way to maputo or something like that?

I would really appreciate advice, since I am not sure how easy it will be for me to get to Pretoria to get this visa. thanks

The problem with getting it at the border is that the bus doesn't wait for you if there is a queue or any delays with getting your visa at the border.

so would there be a way to just get one form of transport to the border, then another to maputo from the border, once i would be done?

Yes there is. Not too sure of the details but I've definitely heard that mentioned as a possibility. Check out the forums on http://www.mozguide.com for more info.

I was looking at the same thing. Mike, the very helpfull guy behind Mozguide, says it is perfectly possible to take a bus to Maputo, tell them you'll be getting out at the border and they do not have to wait. And then take a minibus from the border to Maputo (us$ 2- 3).

This will be way cheaper then getting your visa in advance.

We got visa for Moz at Capetown and took bus at Nelspruit for Maputo. There were several person at the bus without visa and they were lucky than us at the border because there was long que for us but nobody at visa que, so they left boder before than us.

I am interested in finding out the info too as we are looking at travelling across to Moz from SA in late Oct / early Nov. If we can avoid having to go to Pretoria that would be great!

Can you get a visa in Cape town? I didn't realise this!

Also interested in knowing which bus companies people recommend too!

Just get a ride in 'Chapa' (Sharpa)..one of the many 12 seater buses that will be moving through...a local experience.
