I'm heading to Maputo for work in a couple of weeks, but I count on a few days off to visit some nice area and scuba dive with the big fish...

I'm looking for hints about the best places for diving or for just site-seeing or swimming, located not too far away from Maputo, any suggestion is very welcome!

Thank you very much

Oh that sounds amazing. My personal recommendation is Tofo. A beautiful beach close to Inhambane, a days drive from Maputo. The scuba diving and snorkeling is supposed to be great there (I never tried it)! And the atmosphere is fun with mostly backpackers. Fatima's Nest is the best place to stay for budget travelers.

I wrote a whole lot of information about it here: Tofo - a backpackers beach paradise in Mozambique

I know there are some more beautiful places further north, but I am not aware of good diving spots closer to Maputo. I am not a scuba diver though, so there might be a lot of them that I haven't heard of!

If you can, I'd recommend going further north to Vilankulos. Less touristy, better diving. And dive with the whale sharks if you get a chance - my favourite memory of Moz.

Inhaca island is not far off the coast from Maputo, well worth a visit.
