I'm a senior solo traveller, backpacking. Female. I've worked out how to get from Toronto to Chefchaouen. But where should I go from there?
I'll be flying into Marakesh and (I hope) taking an overnight train to Chefchaouen. End March/early April.
I'm a "wander around " person. I'd like a short camel ride but it's not essential. I can book for ten days/two weeks, flexible. Staying in home stays or B and Bs. Prefer heat to cold.
I think I'd like some suggestions for an itinerary as my Lonely Planet book on Morocco hasn't arrived yet.
Thank you in advance!

Unless you're the sort of person who doesn't like privacy and wants all your gear to be at the disposal of your hosts I'd suggest you rethink the home stay idea; in any case, presumably you don't speak Berber or Darija? Hotels can be really inexpensive.
My thoughts on Chefchaouen: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g304013-i12371-k9805087-Is_Chefchaouen_really_worth_it-Chefchaouen_Tangier_Tetouan_Region.html
Chefchaouen is in the northern chilly end of Morocco and isn't on the train line. From Marrakech you will blow a complete day of your holiday on a difficult route to Chefchaouen. So personally I'd drop Chefchaouen otherwise it will determine the route of the rest of your trip.
At that time of year I would explore south from Marrakech, maybe heading south west over the Tizi n'Test (Test pass) to Taroudannt, then on to Sidi Ifni on the coast, inland to Tafraoute (fabulous walks) in the Anti Atlas mountains, then north east to Taliouine (centre of saffron production), east to Tazenakht (carpet centre), then north to Ouarzazate and the ksar of Ain Benhaddou, then back to Marrakech.

I get tired of writing this, but travel is Morocco is slow. The whole of the itinerary on the map above is LESS DISTANCE than a one-way trip from Marrakech to Chefchaouen.
Hi @adelaideaddie ,
Great to hear you're planning to visit Morocco. As a previous member said, Chefchaouen is not on a train line so your options are bus, shared taxi or private taxi.
We visited Morocco for just under 3 weeks a few Septembers ago, and visited Rabat, Fes, Chefchaouen, Tangier, Marrakech and Essaouira. If you don't visit Rabat or Tangier (we weren't majorly impressed with either of them) and cut down a day in Marrakech, you have a 10 day / 2 week trip there. We didn't get out to the desert, which we would have also loved to do.
We've written more about our itinerary (inc. where we stayed, particularly good places that we ate at) here, if you'd like further information. Please let me know if you have any questions :)
Cheers,
Rachel x

I'd recommend planning to go to touristic aereas only. A lot easier and more comfortable for a women travelling alone, in my experience. Also middle and southern part, and along the coast, has a lot warmer weather than the rest.

Hi. I'm almost 50, and am looking to find up to three people to join me and my 13 year-old son on one of two or three possible tours from marrakech-erg Chigaga and back to marrakech. It seems like a good deal considering I've never done that sort of thing. It takes several places have visited in the past which can take a long time using public transport etc. I posted in Jan here, you may find a link. Hoping to leave early on Sat April 8th from marrakech, and back to marrakech airport evening of April 11th. I agree with Tim on many points. Chaouen is great though, but I would advise booking the night train to and from tangier, from marrakech, and sharing grand taxi or take the bus from tangier to chefchaouen via tetouan. Two nights there would be plenty, but it's a lot of travelling. There are great places down south also anti-atlas, and essaouira are just waiting and relatively close compared to chaouen. Do get in touch if any of that is useful or you want to join us on the tour maybe? It's not high end,but includes most things save lunches and tips.

Why do you visit two cities so physically separated? Why not spending some time in Marrakech and surroundings (Essaouria, Ouzoud, Ourika) or Chefchaouen and other cities in the north of Morocco? (Tangier, Asilah, …). I think it is better

Hi
I see that you have just joined. Do you know that you are answering questions here and on one other thread from people who have probably been and gone?

But I think it is also useful for someone who are going to visit the forum. I think it most important forums for lots of people than search for information that for answering one person question.
