But had you posted something from a post office in the UK, or basically anywhere else in the world what would have been different? It would have been badly wrapped and so broken
In any bureaucracy, you give a person a position, they play it to the hilt. And the sense of individual choice that some of us wallow in - and protect as a right - is rather meaningless to many Moroccans. I only had to try and suggest to a guy who cleaned my chukka boots in the dusty south (I don't usually have that done but I was ill and they are good ones) that he might use neutral polish and he looks at me and says, "C'est mon metier" and carries on using a coloured polish. He didn't appreciate what he saw as a challenge. And I didn't argue. If the shoe shine man is like that, then consider the elevated position of the postal clerk.
Yes, and I remember the lady at Fes main post office - very kind - as was one of the customers.

My main post office in the UK doesn't sound much different, if I was to post a fragile object inappropriately wrapped and then it broke I would blame myself. My main post office also sells boxes but no wrapping materials hence I would wrap it at home rather than set about to try and wrap it in the post office (although I am sure this may entertain other people in there). You had been told not to write fragile on the box so of course they were upset that you continued to try and do so afterwards. Also was this written in Arabic or English? Because I am quite certain that if i write fragile on a box in the UK it is largely ignored so I really wouldn't see any point in trying to write it in Arabic.

So the moral of the story is not to write 'fragile' on a parcel, no matter where you post it from. Or, don't post your hard-luck stories on the Africa Branch, because you'll just get told it was all your fault and you deserved everything you got.

I bought some wood boxes from Essouria and posted them. A disaster. I bought bubble pack put 2-4 inches around them and some extra clothes in cardboard boxes and then wrapped them in brown paper. 8 of the 10 boxes I sent were trashed. 1 of them did not have a piece larger than 2 inches left in it. I have sent carpets with no problem. The postal system just seems to be a little rough.

With thuja wood the problem is with air pressure and humidity. New items are made from wood that isn't property cured, and when they are exposed to the conditions in the cargo area of a plane, the wood warps and breaks the glue seal, thus causing the whole thing to fall apart. The ones that didn't were either cured better, or were older.

I'd just like to point out that I don't know krazykatie, but she talks a load of sense!

Your advice is sound - don't send breakable stuff in the post - but its generic to posting from anywhere, not specific to Morocco.
And no-one expects the Spanish Inquisiton, so don't feel bad...... :-)
