Dakhla is in a wonderful setting on a peninsula of salt marshes. Nothing much in Tan Tan. Tan Tan Plage (nowadays El Ouatia) is a nice stop. Laayoune is still full of UN/MINURSO and NGOs wizzing around in Land Cruisers.

..... Dakhla is a good spot to stop, a destination for the determined tourist/traveller, stunning scenery.

Boujdour a bit farther north if you need to break you journey farther into Morocco, fewer tourist facilities as in hotels etc.

Accommodation in Laayoune is fraught and overpriced on account of as mentioned by Tim, it's full of UN observers whizzing around in 4X4's seeing very little other than what the authorities want them to see.!

Stop in Dakhla. The peninsula is picturesque and it has a great vibe. The sheer amount of European retirees coming in their campervans each winter, windsurfers, and backpackers give it better tourism infrastructure than any other Western Sahara town. Laayoune is, as the others mention, expensive for accommodation, and while Laayoune can be interesting as a glimpse into contemporary Western Sahara political realities, it isn’t as worthwhile as Dakhla if you can only stop in one place.

..... the only other bus-line between Inezgane and Dakhla is SATAS, with just one bus per day, there may be other lines I don't know about. It's a low density long route, the busiest part of the N1 route is between Inezgane and Laayoune.
CTM have four buses a day from Dakhla, all via Inezgane (suburb of Agadir).... Supratours operate between Inezgane, Laayoune and Boujdour for sure, don't know if they go as far south as Dakhla.
