Road conditions in Morocco

Hello everyone! We are relaxing in Tinghir and ready to continue our travels. Looking for road condition information on three roads: #1 road from Tamtattouchte to Dades Gorge #2 road from Tazzarine to just south of Zagora #3 Taouz to Tagounite (south of Zagora) we know we will need a guide for this one. Has anyone traveled these roads lately??

About the road from Tamtattouchte I not know nothing, only have read that 20 km North of Dades it is a well maintened road to this village.
Road from Tazzarine to South of Zagora it is maintened now. It was not before but now it is OK.
From Taouz to Tagounite you have to go via Rissani, then Alnif and Tazzarine. Only if you have 4x4 then you can go right over there on the piste along the Algerian border. And in such case you need a guide if you cannot use GPS.

  1. Gorge Link route: anything from 3 hours to 14 hours, depending on conditions. 4x4 essential. http://www.morocco-knowledgebase.net/forum/showthread.php?t=229

  2. Recently graded (last four years), then asphalted (last two years). Will be fine in 2WD. Leave the N12 on a track to the right, 50m before the petrol station also on the right and follow signs. Park up and walk last 150m. There will be a guardian. I was so gobsmacked at the quality of the petroglyphs that I gave 80 dh as a thank you to the site guardian.

  1. The real problem with this off-tarmac route is the very wide river bed crossing at Rhemlia which gets trashed every time there's floods. I have failed on this crossing a couple of times and my approach now is from the N12 to the north and heading for Foum Mharech (stick 'Camp El Mharech' into Google Maps). Then head west on lovely tracks. Great experience having a picnic amongst the acacia trees.
