I've seen lots of chat on here about desert tours and we have decided that when we arrive in Marrakesh we want to head straight out for an overnight tour from there. We are quite limited for time in Morocco and so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good tour so that we dont waste time or get ripped off on a rubbish one?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Try the Hotel Ali in Marrakech. They do offer tours, but reviews have been mixed. Beware the touts who will advertise their services in this forum.
Why don't you head to the desert (either the Zagora or Merzouga areas) on your own, and arrange for a tour after you get there?

With only 1 night to spend forget about a desert tour. You need 1 day to travel to, and 1 to come back. You seem not to imagine how far it is. It is about 500 km, and no highway. Mountains, curves, views. 2 nights is the minimum, and even that is a rush.

Agree with Edith. I had less than 10 days total in Morocco and did the 2 day 1 night desert tour from M' kesh. I used a tour agency down the road from Hotel Ali, upstairs. Can't remember the name though...it was in LP.
Anyway the desert scenery was amazing, but seriously we spent a full day driving there which wasn't terrible as we stopped quite a few places, but by the time we arrived it was dark, did a 2 hour camel ride, which we were all joking could have been in a parking lot as we could not see anything, and then the whole berber camp thing. That was all fun and worth it. The ride back to town the next morning was also great fun bc they let the camels off their leads. But the ten hour ride back to M'kesh through scenery we'd seen once was TOO MUCH. if I had the chance to go again, i'd do at least 2 nights in the desert or not go. Go to Essoaira instead if you can't spare the 2 nights.
PS - Hotel Ali was great value and with a fabulous roof deck, but we did wake at 2 a.m. to mice eating cookies on our nightstand so be prepared!
