Hi there
I am thinking about heading t Morocco for about 10 days 28/08 - 6/09
I shall be flying in and out of Marrakesh and want somm advice on what to do
I travel ALOT - constantly for the last 6 years with work (50 countries), but have never been to Morroco.
I REALLY need a restfull holiday aswell as seeing some culture.
I was thinking of a few days in Marrakesh - where should I stay. Ive heard Riads or Dars are nice for a few days - I havent got a BIG budget but want someplace nice. I am normally a backpacker, but also want some peace and quiet.....So I shall also be leaving Marrakesh and heading out to the sea or nature.
I have heard about Agadir and know its abit touristy, but thats the only place I really know about. I found somewhere for about £80 B& B or another for £130 self catering for a week. Is this good value?
Is Agadir worth going to? Ive heard theres a few excursions around?
Is there anywhere else recomended less touristy? Is the sea REALLY cold? .......
Ive only just thought aout going, so dont know much about the country - any help would really.....help!!!
Thanks

Oh and I may hire a vehicle - whats the rough price of these and good places to get?
What about getting to and from the airport also - is there Public Transport or expensive taxi's only?
Peas
Well there's a lot of questions. The one that I can most easily answer is that there is absolutely no reason for you to go to Agadir. the place looks half finished and isn't remotely the real Morocco. There's bugger all to do, apart from watching the hordes of Moroccans relentlessly promenade up and down the front.
The most relaxing place in my experience was Chefchaouen, which has some good walking and cheap hash. Meknes has a bit of culture and I found it far more hassle free than Fes or Marrakesh. Overall, if you've been to so many countries you won't find Morocco the most restfull place.

Yeas indeed - a few questions!!
Im not too bothered about there not being anything to do. But im not into going to a building site!! Is there anywhere else along the coast that would be recomended.
I dont really wanna do LOTS of traveling so not sure about Chefchaouen is its up North.
Im looking for a relaxing time, some peace and quiet (hopefully by the sea if not in some beautifull Nature) and some culture
Not too much to ask I hope!!
How many days out of 10 in Marrakesh? where to after that?
if youre flying into marrakech i would not bother with agadir - if you want interesting beach stuff to visit then go to Essouira with its unesco medina (yes id get a car and maximise the time you have) - spend time in marrakech but you can also have a nice time driving out to asni and oikmaiden and tin mal to tizntest for great views from morroccos second highest mountain pass and tin mal is a historic mosque that is one of two in morocco that you can visit as a non-muslim. lovely drive along the way.
but if its as long as 10 days id more so consider driving the lovely drive to telouet which is the road towards ouarzazate and near tizintichka - stay around there a few days and do nice drives and walks around the area - interesting souk on thursdays, see the historic glaoui palace that the rulers of the area were based from and which is deteriorating and might not be accessible for much longer - see the lovely nearby areas of anmiter, tigzha and tasgha, even take a walk up to the tamda lakes.
and then drive on to ouarzazate and see ait benhaddou and a film studio and either go to dades gorge and spend some time up there which has lots of beautiful nature and culture and then back to marrakech.
something like that.
if you are really want to go leisurely id spend two or three days in marrakech and get a car for a week for the rest. but essouira and telouet id recommend along with marrakech to make an excellent but still leisurely time.
check out www.virtualtourist.com for travel info with photos on these places!
all the best.

I found Telouet worth about only one hour...so much more to see elsewhere. Skip Agadir. To relax, head for Essaouira. Spend at least 4 days (more if you can) in Marrakech. Don't try do see too much in too little time...as many do.

Thanks for the advice
ive decided deffinately to goto essouira, over agadir. spend 4 or 5 days there, 2 or 3 in Marrekech and then????
Kewibabe - where would you recomend hiring a car from? how much?
On another Topic where in NZ are you from? Im headin over there for the 4th time in a month or so.
