I am a qualified nurse working in UK. When i was in Morocco last march, became suddenly ill wirh a severe asthma attack. My friend called a taxi and took me to the local hospital where i was treated instantly with respect and dignity, I did not have a 4 minute wait, let alone a 4 hour wait which people suffer here under our NHS system. They also wished me well, sent me on my way without having to pay.

Last month, i suffered another bad attack, found a GP in the main street who told me i had an underlying heart condition. I returned to my Gp in the uk who promptly sent me for investigations - found to have angina all thanks to the Moroccan health system - im not knocking ours as obviously theres no system like ours, but for speed and help i could notfault Morocco. If your husband isnt still sure, tell him to email me best of luck with your travels and the fututr coming of the little one.

What cities in Morocco were you treated in? And in private clinics or public hospitals?

Rabat in the main hospital, then in Sale a local doctor not private. I also walked into a clinic in Rabat and paid 100Dh (£6.25) for an FBC full blood count. Decided to pay also 700Dh for a HIV test with no questiions answered (My ex husband was previously unfaithful, ive always feared, but the uk docs wont test unless for a specific reason, then itss expensive unless you have cancer)
I walked into a private dentist in Tabrecht (half hour outside Rabat) and had dental treatment an examination, exray, and 3 fillings for 700Dh. I could have haggled but i would have had to pay yhat just for one filling here. Needless to say i will be returning there for further treatment.
I was pleased to experience that they were very helpful, did not charge me just for the sake of making extra money, as i took my daughter for an emergency extraction. They greeted me with Hallo madam Denise - much to my surprise that they remembered me - but advised they would not extract the tooth as she was flying 3 days after - just incase of complications. They did not charge her but gave her a prescription for which she paid 100Dh at the pharmacy of her choice.

Another positive that i accidently came acress was thati was able tu buy antibiotics and steroids + inhalers over the counter without seeing a doctor - this is the case in most all pharmacys in Morocco apparently.

Two years ago 11 pharmacists in Morocco were prosecuted by the government for having fake credentials. There also have been problems with some outdated meds being sold. Advice: bring with you what you think you may need.
