Hi there,

I 'll be three months pregnant when my husband and I head to Morocco for two weeks. We're not planning on going off the beaten track, mainly Casablanca, Tangiers, and a nice beach place. We are so excited but just want to make sure there are adequate medical facilities just in case I need any. Can anyone calm my husband....
Thanks in advance for any info.

Maybe someone can weigh in with their own experience of needing treatment while pregnant in Morocco, but my experiences with the health care system, including private care, would make me drive the 8 hours up to Spain to see a doctor there before I'd step foot in a Moroccan clinic.

You'll be fine in Casablanca and Rabat. I've never been pregnant, period, but I find the health care in major cities (at private clinics, mind you, not public ones) to be adequate and sterile. Particularly Rabat.

I agree with chanol, but Rabat could be considered.

To be fair to health care in Morocco, my experiences come from having lived in Fes which is, for better or worse, a backwater just about any way you slice it. Surely there must be adequate private medical care in the major cities such as Rabat and Casablanca, as alifB and marocfan point out.

And alifbaa, how long have you been married and no children yet? I'm sure the neighbors keep asking "When"?!

thanks everyone, I think we may go for it...and just do a lot of research before hand.
Does anyone know, are there are vaccinations needed to go to Morocco?
Thanks,

No vaccinations are required. Several are highly advised (see the Centers for Disease Control website). But obviously you should check with your doctor on which ones may be appropriate for you!

Luckily, she doesn't need any.

Actually, OP, you should stay in Morocco and have your baby there so your baby won't get injected with mercury.

I am sure that there are many more qualified, experienced midwives in Morocco than in the United States.

My baby was born in Rabat two months ago - in a private clinic.

To be honest, the birth experience was pretty brutal, but the pre-natal care we got in Rabat was good.

I really don't think you'd be taking too much of a risk coming to Morocco while pregnant. Good luck with everything ...
