Hi,

We are looking to do a trip from Morocco to Spain via ferry. We don't have confirmed dates as yet as we are still doing the necessary research regarding it.

Is this trip and easy one?
Fly to Morocco and take a ferry to Spain or fly to Spain and take a ferry to Morocco
What would the ideal time to be to spend in each city?

Regards
T

What is your nationality? That will determine if you need visas etc...

The actual taking a ferry is easy enough.

Spain and Morocco are not cities.Which cities do you want to visit in these countries? And what do you want to see and do there?

I'm South African, so will definitely need a visa for Spain.

At this stage we're open to anything, and we have no specific plan. Definitely the main cities in Morocco and keen to do Madrid and Barcelona

From DirectFerries.co.uk - 'There are 8 ferry companies with a combined offering of 11 Ferry Routes connecting Algeciras to Ceuta & Tangier Med, Almeria to Melilla & Nador, Malaga to Melilla, Algeciras to Ceuta & Tangier Med, Motril to Melilla, Tangier Med, Al Hoceima & Nador, Algeciras to Ceuta & Tangier Med, Almeria to Melilla & Nador, Malaga to Melilla, Algeciras to Ceuta & Tangier Med, Tarifa to Tangier & Algeciras to Ceuta & Tangier Med' - so choose your ferry route and cities accordingly.

NB Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish enclaves in Morocco.

If offered a choice between the "Slow" and the "Fast" ferry, defiantly take the fast ferry. It is considerably faster.

The trip is easy Ive done it several times. Algeciras I believe now goes to Tanger Med, not done that, but from the ferry terminal in Algeciras you can get a free bus transfer to Tarifa, a pleasant journey, and get the fast crossing which brings you into the port in Tangier, just below the Medina...Fantastic. Easy to get the bus from Malaga airport to Algeciras to, or indeed the other way. I originally did this to avoid flight cost to Morocco, but I no longer have to travel to London, as flights now go to Marrakech from Bristol, and are dirt cheap if you time it right. I Have no idea how long you have, but would recommend a couple of nights in Tangier, which I love, and visiting Chefchaouen, which is easiest from that end, Three nights maybe. If you haven't been to Morocco before, I would continue to Fes, and visit Volubilis and Meknes fron there as a base, and stay four nights. Then Head to Marrakech, by train or desert tour, depending on time. Marrakech you could spend a good while, or head out to Essaouira, and return from Marrakech to Tangier on the Sleeper. Or fly our of Marrakech or Casablanca. You can also fly out of Ouarzazate these days, so if a Southern Morocco tour was of interest, that could save you time.

Which cities? Tangiers is a dump and I wouldn't spend any time there. There's almost nothing for a tourist in Casablanca either. Marrakesh, maybe three days/two nights - I haven't found it as interesting as others have. Fez - a couple of days with an overnight. Rabat and Meknes, a day each. Essaouria, a couple of days. It depends on what you like doing, how quickly you travel, and what your overall itinerary looks like.
