Hi - have just spent about 2 hours reading all these fascinating posts. I can see there are differing views but I wonder if anyone could weigh in on whether it is a good idea to try to see Marrakech and do a night in the desert on a 6 day trip ? I see that Zagora is nearest - I know my kids would love it but at the same time I don't want to consign them to hours in a bus/car when we have a relatively short time. If not the desert - what would be the next best side trip from marrakesh for children ?

Finally - any recommendations of places to stay in Marrakesh approx £50 sterling a night for a family of 4 ? Would love to hear from any families who have done this trip -(have cross posted on the kids to go branch)

Thanks in advance for any info

With only six days, spend it all in Marrakech...too far to get to Zagora--save it for next time. And if you plan to visit in September, it still will be very hot in the desert.
Try an overnight trip to Essaouira--the beach is pretty good for kids, despite what some claim.

I am sure others will have suggestions too.

I second the suggestion you take the kids to Essaouira. They'll love it, and so will you.

Beside what #1 suggested, you can also do a day trip to Ouzzoud water falls, the kids will enjoy playing with the monkeys there.

Marocfan knows his stuff!! Our daughter was 10 the first time we took her to Morocco. She loved the beach!!! The beach at Essaouira is not huge but it is clean and nice and conveniently placed near places to stay (if you're looking for a place the kids will like it's great for that). This year, we gave our daughter (12 years old) a choice of desert or beach (2 weeks, not enough time to do both). She picked the beach. HIGHLY recommend it - desert is a long drive with not a lot of interest for children.
