Hi, my honeymooning wife and i are looking at doing a 3 day trek from Imlil to Setti Fatma, can anyone help out with the following please.
a) can we do this without a guide if we have a map and can we buy the relevant map in Imlil?
b) If we decide to hire a mule and guide how much will this cost us?
c) Would we need to take food with us for the whole way or is this quite a "mainstream" trek where we can stop at gites each night
Basically if anyone has done this trek i would really appreciate you getting in touch. THanks, please use my email address directly

- Easy to do without a guide but the map you can buy in Imlil (and it is very good) only covers about two thirds of the route to Timichi. By then you will be confident enough to follow the trail on day 3 to Setti Fatma without a map - if you can't find the right one in Marrakech. There are very few paths in the mountains so once you're on the path, you just follow it and use common sense - and you will meet people who will help. That's mountain life. This might sound alarming but it isn't. I've done it and survived. You'll find it very rewarding.
If you really don't fancy that, you just ask someone in Timichi to walk with you.
3. I've only hiked a part of that route but it would be wise to carry bottled water and food because you won't find shops. There's a bakery and small stores in Imlil. Ask people when you're there - the guys at Hotel Soleil, for instance, where you can buy the map. The locals will provide an evening meal or breakfast of some kind if you ask.
Not many trekkers post here. People would really appreciate a report from you when you get back. This is why I'm making the reply public.
