Hello Morocco-forumers! I am still unable to resolve the most pressing problem after days with guidebook and searching this forum: my spouse and I have only six days (eight nights) in Morocco, flying into and out of Casablanca. I am primarily drawn to Marrakech, Ait Bougomez, Todra and Dades Gorges and Fez. But how to split time between them so that we get a rich and fulfilling time? We are from Delhi, India, so not keen on desert landscape or camel rides; nor the sea but the High Atlas draws us. Gentle/steady long walks through pleasant spring? (Travel in first week of May) landscapes appeal more, especially if it gives an insight into local culture. Love Medinas, pointless tea-drinking, street food eating and gazing at lovely tiles. Shopping isn't a necessity but enjoying energetic public culture is. Torn between Fez and Marrakech, but wonder if the 8-hour journey between the two is going to kill our triptime. Replication is a (much smaller) issue: We have travelled extensively in Europe and Turkey, so wonder if Volubilis betters the ruins and mosaics in Ephesus for example. Fez/Meknez etc does seem like something we would enjoy, but somehow Marrakech suggests a more "real" Africa - we have only been to Egypt, so can't tell if this is right. We want to sample whatever is unique for Morocco in these precious six days and do hope some of you very knowledgeable people on this forum can weigh in with suggestions. We prefer to use public transport but are not averse to a private taxi if it will save time (do not want to drive at all). Help!

I would recommend you to not go to both Fes and Marrakech, go to only one of those cities otherwise you would have rushing times I can say. Marrakech is not more real Morocco than Fes and Meknes. Marrakech is only more hectic.

Thank you, Khamlia. I was hoping you would respond. Which of the two cities would you suggest? We enjoy all old, living cities.
If Marrakech, would we be able to do a side trip including both Todra/Dades Gorges and the Ait Bougomez without rushing? I am not clear of the route to follow. Will it be Tinerhir to Imilchil to reach Ait Bougomez?

Very involved. It's about 11 or 12 hours drive from Tinerhir, so you'll need to stop overnight.
North of Imilchil you can now cut a cross on a new road from the R317 to the R306, see map http://tinyurl.com/j3dsxyf
