What's the best way to get to Ouarzazate from the northern regions of Morocco (i.e. from around Meknes/Fes etc)?

Is it possible to get buses/local transport through the Middle and High Atlas and approach it from the NE via the Todra Gorge?

Or am I better off going to Marrakech first and then striking east?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Your best way is to get to it via Errachida and Tinghir, there are buses from Fez and Meknes,if the bus schedule from those cities conflict with yours you can always get the one to Errachidia then you 'll find so many that go to Ouarzazte.

Leave Fes early - 7 or 7.30am from the old bus station near Bab Boujeloud. You should get to Tinerhir about 6 pm and Ouazazate about 9 pm with a change at Er Rachidia as #1 says. Alternatively take a series of grand taxis from Er Rachidia as soon as you arrive (about 3pm).

If you are planning on doing a desert trip it makes sense to do this on the way to Ouarzazate rather than as an excursion from Ouarzazate - overnight bus from Fes/Meknes to Rissani/Erfoud (then taxi to Merzouga or nearby guesthouse for desert trip). Then grand taxis or bus to Tinghrer and Ouarzazate.
