Hallo all,
I am going for 10 days to Morocco (for the second time in my life) and I have the following question.
we are going to stay in the south-center (no Casablanca or Fez)
We start three days in Marrakesh, we rent a car, and then drive towards the desert through Ouarzazate and Zagora. There we plan to stay a couple of days and visit the desert (not yet really planned)

The question is, having 3 more nights (and a last one in Marrakesh) what would you choose:

a) Making a tour Zagora - Mergouza - Tingihr - Skoura visiting several nice gorges

the other option would be

b) Leaving Zagora towards the see and visit Taraudannt and Essaouira

As a sub question I have heard that Taraudannt is like a little Marrakesh. Is that just that? or something more, because we will have already some days in Marrakesh.

Thanks a lot

In 10 days you have not so much time so if you go towards Zagora, then continue until M'Hamid and by 4x4 to Erg Chigaga for your desert trip. Don't stay in Zagora, there it is nothing to see, only one bigger province town. Many years ago, about 16 years ago it was nice interesting small town, but then when it became to a province town, it is destroyed I can say.
Then go back to Marrakech or Taroudant. Skip Essaouira. I like Taroudant, it is right it says it is a little Marrakech, but more calm and you have ther 2 kind of souks, one Berber, one Arabic.

We travel because we need to. Because the distance and difference are the secret tonics to the creativity. When we get home, home is still the same, but something in our minds has changed, and that changes everything.

..... both itineraries seem a bit long for February when useful daylight is less than 11 hours or so. The roads in southern areas are slow to drive on, journeys take more time than you imagine, there aren't any Auto-routes.

Taroudannt is a terrific castellated walled town complete with gates in good repair, unlike tourist thronged Marrakech the town has real authentic feel about it, well worth a visit. From Marrakech an interesting and dramatic drive through the Tiz-n-Test Pass visiting Tin Mal en-route is worth consideration.
From Taroudannt head for the coast and the seaside villages between Agadir and Essaouira before returning to Marrakech..... if this is where your return flight departs.
